Changes Are Here for How You Send Email to Customers

Changes are here for how you send email to customers and prospects!

The start of February is when Google and Yahoo! put new policies in place in order to crackdown on spam hitting Gmail and Yahoo! Mail inboxes respectively.

If your business sends at least 5000 bulk emails per day you must make changes to your DNS records regarding email authentication. This means adding and configuring SPF, DKIM, and DMARC records.

You must also make it simple for someone to unsubscribe from mass mailings with one click. This also applies to non-bulk senders. And you must strive to fall below a certain threshold for spam complaints, which, as of this writing, is 0.1%.

BUT, we will add our experience to this. If you are using email marketing platforms like SendGrid, MailChimp, ZoHo Campaigns, etc, and you are well below the 5000 bulk email count, anticipate these platforms to ask you to verify your domain. And for good measure make adjustments to your DNS settings by adding SPF, DKIM, and DMARC records. We feel these platforms will force all their users to do this because they themselves want to avoid the risk of someone launching spam campaigns from their assets. They don’t know who you are.

Failure to properly authenticate your email means you risk them getting rejected before they even arrive at a customer’s or prospect’s inbox.
